If Droulers’ inspiration comes from the typewriters imaginary, Droulers Clarendon goes way before, towards the characters of the 19th century press. The project emerges from an uchronian hypothesis: what would be the source of Droulers, if it was used on a Remington No.2 in 1878?
Droulers Clarendon is a fantasized version of Droulers, conceived as Droulers’ original story.
Inspired by the Clarendons/Ionics1, it uses its main rules: rectangular serifs softened by brackets (a curved connection between the stem and serif) and a stronger contrast. Contrary to the original Droulers, Droulers Clarendon has proportional spacing, more adapted to text. It offers a warmer type color and is more flexible.
It keeps the formal specificities of Droulers: filled letters, closed counterpunches, merging serifs.2
Conceived as the source of Droulers while being its younger brother, Droulers Clarendon is a time and typographic paradox, a typeface that rewinds time.
