About Ostia Antica

Regular & Italic:
Designed by Yoann Minet and Spassky Fisher in 2013
Published in 2015
Light, Light Italic, Book & Book Italic:
Designed and published by Bureau Brut in 2018
Originally designed with Spassky Fischer for the catalogue of the Pasolini Roma exhibition shown at la CinĂ©mathĂšque française in 2013, Ostia Antica was designed in one weight only, for setting at a 9-point size. The family has recently grown bigger with the addition of two new lighter weights. It features nods to various past genres of sans serif typefaces: the uppercase letters channel Johnston, while the lowercase is closer to the uneven and vibrant late 19th century grotesques. The italic, with a carefree inclination of 35°, playfully reflects the current digital era by making fun of the âslantedâ software tool.

A cry of fury broke from everyone! At noon we were no further advanced than at eight oâclock in the morning. The captain then decided to take more direct means. âAh!â said he, âthat animal goes quicker than the Abraham Lincoln. Very well! we will see whether it will escape these conical bullets. Send your men to the forecastle, sir.â The forecastle gun was immediately loaded and slewed round. But the shot passed some feet above the cetacean, which was half a mile off. âAnother, more to the right,â cried the commander, âand five dollars to whoever An old gunner with a grey beardâthat I can see nowâwith steady eye and grave face, went up to the gun and took a long aim. A loud report was heard, with which were mingled the cheers of the crew. The bullet did its work; it hit the animal, and, sliding off the rounded surface, was lost in two miles depth of sea.
