The identity for Isabelle Fouan-Jamin architecture practice needed to draw a connection between the thorough and precise architectural work and the uniqueness of Isabelle’s approach—hand-drawn plans and perspective renderings. The name we suggested—5BIS architecture et urbanisme—comes from both the office’s address and the idea of renewal, just like when a new plot is marked on an urban plan. The land registry map—its irregular rhythm and high contrast between shapes and counter-shapes—inspired the custom typeface we designed for the occasion. Letters become architectural shapes, filling up all available space and connecting with their neighbours through white space. All details have an Art Nouveau, hand-drawn feel. Thanks to the addition of Stratos, a typeface with a more constructed look, and a simple layout, the identity expresses the two-sidedness of the practice.
